About Steve

Steve Pope cut his percussive teeth in the rock driven ‘90s, hitting the ground running on the Australian tour and festival circuit. Recording a handful of studio releases and playing the Big Day Out and Livid festivals with staple Aussie bands like Bulldozer and The Full Colour was just the beginning.

Inspired to share his love for the craft of drumming, in 1998 Steve opened his own teaching studio in association with Billy Hyde Drumworx in Brisbane, Australia. Completing a Bachelor of Music at the QLD Conservatorium 2001 and teaching at the Bachelor of Popular Music at the Gold Coast Conservatorium, he devotes a large part of his time to teaching drums to around 50 students per week while balancing a busy international tour schedule.

An integral member of contemporary pop-rock and indie outfits Transport, Medollic, A Family of Strangers, The Stames and Daisie May, to the masses Steve is perhaps best known as the drummer for the dazzling young, platinum selling, Sony/BMG recording artist Kate Miller-Heidke. Tracking drums for her ‘Circular Breathing’ EP, ‘Little Eve’ and ‘Curiouser’ albums, touring extensively in Australia, Europe and Asia, as Kate’s drummer of choice Steve has performed live at the 2007 ARIA Awards, Channel 10‘s Rove, Vodaphone’s Live at the Chapel, Channel 7′s Sunrise, Channel 7′s The Morning Show, ABC TV’s The Sideshow, Channel V’s Playroom Sessions, Channel 10′s Video Hits, and the MTV Exit concert series in Nepal, Vietnam and Thailand. More recently, Steve has been in high demand as a recording and touring session player. As well as working with many emerging artists, he has worked with high profile Australian acts including the likes of Darren Hayes and Angus & Julia Stone.
